These files are extremely short video clips encoded in AVC (This is the high quality type).

The low quality type is REALLY low quality and takes up a lot of space. This low quality one is Mpeg-4 ASP. In my opinion, it only has two things going for it:
1. It is fairly quick to encode
2. You don’t have to know anything to make the movie “PSP compatible”

In AVC (Stands for “Advanced Video Codec”), one minute of movie at 480×272 will be roughly 1.5mb (This is excellent compression) and for one minute at 320×240, the file will be roughly 600kb in size.

Unfortunately, AVC has it’s drawback (There really only is one) and that is that it is slower to encode.

In Mpeg-4 ASP, one minute of movie at 320×240 (This is the highest resolution supported on the PSP for mpeg4-asp) takes 2.0mb of space (This is half a megabyte more for less than half the resolution!).
